dc.description.abstract | Research indicates that Arab American Muslims are at high risk for depression. It is therefore urgent that suitable psychotherapeutic models are developed for this population. This thesis presents a new model of psychotherapy suitable for Arab American Muslims: Islamic Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (IREBT). The model is grounded in Sunni Islamic theory and technique and integrates elements of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT). It is designed specifically for depressed Muslims who already believe in God/wish to believe in God, who are already highly religious/wish to become highly religious, and who desire to use faith to overcome emotional problems. It is recommended that empirical studies be conducted to determine the efficacy of this model in treating depression in Arab American Muslims. | en_US |
